Family Preservation

These programs are designed to support families facing a multitude of challenges in our ever changing society. Families are provided with new skills and information to assist with parenting. Our goal is to enhance communication, build positive relationships and strengthen the family unit. The Family Preservation programs include:

Healthy Families

Healthy Families provides a free home visiting program for first time young parents (20&under). Home visitor is someone who will get to know you and your baby and will help you build your parenting skills, answer questions you may not feel comfortable asking others and will work with you and your family to strengthen relationships. They can also help you set goals and find right services and programs for young parents in your community, like day care, health insurance, job placement agencies, continuing education and more. You can start the home visits during your pregnancy and continue them up to your child's third birthday. With a Healthy Families Home Visitor by your side, you can find the support and information that will help you become the parent you want to be.

Families & Schools Together (FAST)

A prevention and parent involvement program that promotes family interaction, communication, and problem-solving through organized activities such as games, singing and meal sharing. FAST targets elementary and middle school children focusing on positive experiences to strengthen bonds within families, the schools, and the community.

Family Mentor Program

A voluntary, parent support and education program that is provided in a number of local communities. Family mentors encourage the development of the important linkage between school, home and community resources. It is designed to be a in house support program for parents.

Family Skill-Builder Programs

In-home services for families throughout Western Massachusetts that are at risk of abusing and neglecting their children and are involved with DSS. It is designed to resolve child abuse and neglect, prevent the need for child foster placement, and to help families function independently of state intervention.

Parents and Children in Divorce Program

Divorce is a difficult and challenging transition for both parents and children. Through discussion, video, role playing and workbooks, licensed professionals will help parents explore the needs of children in divorce, and develop practical coping strategies.

Topics to be discussed include:

  • Roles and responsibilities of parents who do not live together
  • How families experience divorce disputes
  • Stages of adjustment to divorce
  • Effective communication techniques
  • Conflict management

Program Information:

  • The five hour seminar is divided into two sessions, each 2½ hours long
  • To complete the program, participants must attend both sessions in their entirety
  • Approved by the Probate and Family Court in Massachusetts
  • Programs are offered monthly, evenings and weekends at convenient locations
  • Pre-registration is required
  • Spouses may not attend the same sessions
  • We regret that we cannot offer child care
  • Fee: $65 per person
  • At the end of the second session participants will receive a certificate of completion

Parent Education & Support Groups

CFS offers a parent education and support group designed to assist with the challenges of raising children. The goal of this group is to assist parents in gaining skills and decreasing social isolation.

Topics include:

  • Appropriate and effective discipline techniques
  • Child development
  • No more bed time battles
  • How to raise responsible children
  • Planning nutritional meals
